They were intimately acquainted with Daniel Boone and Simon Kenton, the two distinguished pioneers of the West. Matthew Davidson built the Presbyterian stone church near Red Oak, which was the first in the township. He aided in many other important improvements and was a man of influence. He died March 14, 1814, and his wife followed him in 1852, aged seventy-eight years. in 1778 at Washington, Brown, Ohio, USA.1

He is a son of Absalom and Phebe Wood, the former a native of Ohio, of English and German descent, and the latter a native of Kentucky, of Irish descent. Our subject received a common school education, and for his life work chose the occupation of his father, farming, at which he has since continued. He was married in 1866, to Miss Mary J. Smith, a native of Clermont County, and a daughter of S. B. Smith, a prominent farmer of that county. Their union was blessed with three children, vix., Alva C., Minnie, and Ross. Mr. and Mrs. Wood are members of the Christian Church, in which he has been an Elder and Trustee. He is a Democrat in politics and has served his district as School Director in the past. He is a practical farmer and raised, among other stock, some fine horses. with Sebastian Smith Wood and Mary Jane Smith at Brown, Ohio, USA.1 Rosa A Wood was also known as Ross Wood.1
