[S1185] "Newspaper Article", OBITUARY. Departed this life, on the 24th ult. [24 Feb. 1844] Mr. William Howle, Senr., of this District, in the 89th year of his age. The deceased was one of those who took an active part, during the time of the Revolution, in favor of this his native land, and had the consolation of living to see the great blessings that are enjoyed by the millions, who, had it not been for him and his fellow patriots, would now have been under the British yoke.
Mr. H. was born in the "State" of Virginia, but for the last sixty-five years has been a resident of this District. In the year 1822 he lost his wife, who was killed instantly by lightning, whilst sitting in her own house. For the last twenty-two years he has been an advocate in the cause of Temperance. Three weeks previous to his death, he stated he was willing to die, having made his peace with his God.
