     William C. Barfield was born at Tennessee; 1860, 1870 and 1880 Census indicate he was born in TN.¹ He was born on 1 September 1823 at Port Gibson, Mississippi. He was born at Germany; Son Wm. C Barfield's death certificate states his father was born in Germany. This information was provided by Wm C. wife Annie.² He married Margaret C. Bacon on 23 November 1845 at Cincinatti, Hamilton, Ohio. William C. Barfield lived in 1849 at Peoria, Peoria, Illinois; obituary states he steamboated for many years, coming to Peoria in 1849. He was engaged in the business of Millwright and Carpenter. Retired for 12 years prior to his death.³ He and Margaret C. Bacon appeared on the census of 22 June 1860 at 1st Ward, Peoria City, Peoria, Illinois; Wm age 38 occupation carpenter, Margaret age 36.⁴ William C. Barfield and Margaret C. Bacon appeared on the census of 2 July 1870 at 6th Ward, Peoria, Peoria, Illinois.⁵ William C. "The deceased was one of the best known steamboat men having navigated the Illinois River, and was personally known to a large number of Pekin, Ill. residents who regret to hear of his demise."³ He was buried on 23 March 1907 at Springdale Cemetary, Peoria, IL.³
